A Real Life Angel

I have mixed feelings about sharing this story with all of you given the circumstances but here goes…
Last month during filming for Me and Orson Welles, Zac visited terminally ill cancer patient Connor Steventon as a surprise for his 13th birthday. A very enthusiastic HSM fan, Connor’s mother was able to arrange the surprise when she heard that Zac would be filming in the IoM.
According to his mother, his ‘eyes nearly fell out of his head when he realised his idol was there to help celebrate his birthday’. Unfortunately, Connor lost his battle with cancer less than three weeks after his birthday after 2 years of fighting the disease. A charity will be set up in his name using funds that were initially raised to help pay for his hospital treatment.

Awww… that’s so sad! But at the same time, it’s so good that Zac was able to ease the pain of Connor for one day. I’m a volunteer in an association in my college, and we go all Mondays to the hospital to play with kids with cancer. I’m telling you, they do more for you than you for them. It’s one of the most valuables experiences I’ve ever had. I’m going again in a few hours, after three weeks without going due to my exams. I’m looking forward to it. It’s such an intense feeling, to be able to put a smile in their faces.
It’s hard too… but what you learn there, you can’t learn it otherwise.

I can’t imagine what it must feel like for a parent to have to bury a child, how hard it is, how wrong it feels, how empty your heart becomes to watch the life fade away from the very life you helped create. I hope Connor’s all too short 13 years on this earth were enjoyed to the fullest, and that his spirit is continuing on now in a world without pain.
May he rest in peace.

Zac has always been a conscientious and compassionate individual, this is a quality he seems to share with Vanessa. This is just a fine example.
I can honestly say Connor is now at peace and free of pain. It was just meant to be. This stems from my belief in Angels and the afterlife. He had a purpose in his short lived life and it has affected others in a profound way.

That’s horrible… But the bright side is that he got to meet his idol before he died. That was probably a dream come true for him.
I don’t really know what to say… It’s always so awful when a child is lost.

Thank you for sharing that story Ellie. While it is extremely heartbreaking, I think it once again reaffirms what we already know and love about Zac.

One of the hardest thing as a parent is to see your child suffering. I’m truly sorry for your lost. I’m glad you were able to grant Connor one last wish. Zac you are truly an amazing person to bring joy to Connor’s life. I’m sure it meant the world to him for you to visit. Thanks your being you!!

It’s sad…and yet, it’s good that while he was still functioning, he was able to at least find that piece of happiness. good job mom, I give you a big kudos for going that far to find your son that happiness. And good job to Zac for finding the time and fulfilling that dream.
May you rest in peace Connor~

I just have to say that it is very heartbreaking to see a child at the prime of his youth to lose such a courageous battle with cancer. Also, for Zac his “idol” to find time is his busy schedule to go and help him celebrate a very special day with him shows us that Zac is not just another actor but, a guy who actually cares about his fans. I know that Zac says it all the time that his fans are important to him. But when you get to see such a bright smile on a young boys face just because he met his “idol” you know that he is at peace and free from pain with just this simple act of kindness! This is why I LOVE Zac so much because he shows he does have a heart.

Oh, my…that is really sad…it is always amazingly sad when parents outlive their children…my heart goes out to the family…but I agree that his mom did a great job helping to make the time he did have very meaningful for him and it is great that Zac and the others did this to help brighten Connor’s days. It’s not surprising in the least because I think we all believe Zac really is just that nice and caring and down-to-earth, but it’s still great to see. RIP Connor.

awwwwww, THAT’S SO SAD! Why must so many people lose the battle to cancer? It’s a cruel disease, harsh with any victims grasped in its clutches….
