‘My MAOW Experience’

ZAAngels visitor Injila recently won the opportunity to attend the UK premiere of ‘Me and Orson Welles‘ in Leicester Square, London! She has very kindly written a review of her experience for ZAAngels and has also provided us with the pictures she took on the day! Check out the photos by clicking HERE or on the images below.

On 18th November 2009, I luckily won two tickets to the premiere of ‘Me and Orson Welles’ in London, from the MySpace competition. I was also told that I was winning the Cobra watch that Zac actually wore in the movie (I received that today, actually).

When I arrived at the premiere, it was chaos. From the other end of the road you could hear screams and “ZAAAACCC!!!” It was all surreal. I’ve never even seen anyone famous before so I got really ecstatic and anxious to see the cast; mostly Zac though. Zac was the first to arrive at 5:55pm. I was told that I couldn’t go beyond gates until after 6:00pm. So for five very fast minutes, I took as many pictures as I could of Zac standing literally only 6/7 metres away from me. I never got anything signed and didn’t meet him, though.

Five minutes later, I was walking the red carpet. I took my twin sister with me so we took as many pictures as we could of each other before we were ushered into the cinema screen.

When we were in the cinema screen, we were third row from the front and we were watching all the cast and crew interviews on the live feed. When that ended, curtains drew and everyone become very fidgety and anxious as to what was going to happen. Not long later, spotlights were set up and the interviewer from the live feed came in and spoke to us. He introduced this man from ‘CineMAX’ who spoke about the promotion for the movie (look in Tesco’s when the DVD comes out). He knew we were really nervous for who was coming next as we could see the top of their heads behind the slanted wall. I was so excited when I saw the back of Claire Danes’ head, the sides of Richard Linklater and Christian McKay and Zac’s hair and eyes.

They were then called out. When everyone saw the first glimpse of Zac we all screamed, literally. He waved, as did the rest of the cast and then stood at the front. Richard spoke first about the context of the movie and then passed the microphone over to Zac. Everyone, well all the girls, started to scream again. Someone screamed “I love you Zac!” and then he responded back by saying “I love you too,” which induced more screams. I was literally having a heart attack, I was that excited. He told us that he was glad we were all there and hoped that we all enjoyed the movie and then passed the microphone over to Claire who said how much she enjoyed making the movie and hoped would like it did too. Whilst Claire was talking, I’m not even joking; Zac looked over at me and my twin and I thought I was going to faint right there. We were the only ones sitting on the row at that moment so we knew he looked at us. When Christian spoke, everyone “awed” because he said it was his first premiere. They all then waved and walked out.
The lights then dimmed, and the movie began.

Before I watched the movie, my expectations for the movie were pretty good. But when I watched the movie, I fell in love with the storyline and enjoyed every minute of it. Christian absolutely nailed Welles; Claire was a sassy and independent character and the story shown through Zac’s eyes was brilliant. His character wasn’t forced and he looked at ease with his role. He portrayed a young 17 year old trying to get into the theatre and the way he did it was by earning the title ‘Junior’ by Orson Welles.

The movie was dramatic, funny and how a movie about the theatre should be. It was pretty amazing, if you ask me. So if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you do. When it comes out in the UK on the 4th, I’ll definitely be watching it again  I hope no one got bored with my blog on my experience. It was the best day of my life, literally.
