Glamour.com Interview

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Promotion is beginning to kick off for both The Lorax and The Lucky One, starting with a Glamour.com interview with Zac! He talks about The Lucky One, tearjerker movies, bulking up for roles, bad habits, relationships and more! This interview is featured in the March 2012 Issue of Glamour, so check back soon for scans. In the mean time, check out an excerpt below and the full interview HERE!

GLAMOUR: What was the hardest thing about doing your Lucky One role?
ZAC EFRON: It is sensitive playing a U.S. Marine sergeant. We met with a bunch of staff sergeants at Camp Pendleton. Most of them were my height, but they really had a lot of extra weight on them. So for the role I must have put on 25 pounds.

GLAMOUR: Was your diet crazy?
ZAC EFRON: If I could lay out on a table what I ate in one day, your jaw would drop. It was thousands and thousands of calories. One day I put three chicken breasts into a blender and hit “puree,” because I just couldn’t chew. Chewing was taking so long!

‘Realism Meets Romance’: TLO Article

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Late last month, The Lucky One Director Scott Hicks and author of the original novel Nicholas Sparks visited Australia to promote the movie. They conducted a number of interviews and chatted about Zac’s role in the movie as a soldier, research and more. Check out an excerpt from an interview from FilmInk below and the full article HERE.

“When I started working on the film, I took Zac down to Camp Pendleton – which is a huge military base in California – and we hung out with a group of Marines who are his age, who really had the experience of the character in the story,” he says.”And what was really interesting was how they all connected with the idea of this photograph – they all had some sort of talisman that they carried with them. One guy had – what had been a playing card once upon a time – but it had been through the laundromat, and it was just shreds of a card that he’d carried on three tours in his helmet. He lost it one time, and panicked, and thought everything was going to come to an end.”

The experience at Camp Pendleton was especially valuable for Efron – whose previous roles haven’t required a great deal of emotional depth. ”It really helped Zac,” Hicks says.

The Lucky One is due to be released in Australia on April 19th 2012!

A ‘Heartland’ Extra’s Set Experience

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011
Heather Scotsville was lucky enough to be an extra on the set of ‘Heartland‘ (a.k.a. “The Untitled Ramin Bahrani Movie“!) and she spoke about her experience with movies.about.com! Read a snipet below and check out the full article HERE.

For the first take, Zac walked up on stage and those crazy teen girls from the stands screeched out his name while the rest of us were trying to hold it in since those were the instructions. Zac came up, waved, did a hair flip, and then shook hands with the track officials up on stage. He walked to the other corner, waved again, and then walked down the stairs. There, he met the track minister and they kneeled down together and prayed. That was the whole scene.

The second take, the track announcer introduced him like any other driver (he was starting 24th in car #11, he’s from Iowa, and his name was Dean Whipple). We did our clapping and ‘wooo’ again and he did the hair flip and shaking hands. The third take was the same as the first, but the camera crew followed him (so the cameras were right on me and my friend as they came up the stairs).

Shooting for the movie recommences tomorrow (September 28th) and the film is expected to wrap in mid October. We are SO excited to see this film!

Liberal Arts Article

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

The Kenyon Collegian have published a great article on the production of Liberal Arts which took place on their campus earlier this summer. Check out a preview below and be sure to read the full article which contains lots more info HERE.

“I heard rumors that Zac Efron was coming on the first day I started working, which was about a week and a half before shooting,” Arbery said. “I was not allowed to mention him at all. We didn’t want extras coming just because Zac Efron was in it. We didn’t want them to tell their friends and bring cameras and spoil the quiet, concentrated set.”

Efron’s “Nat” is “a pivotal character in the movie,” according to Radnor. The High School Musical star was on campus from June 17-18 and completed all his scenes in that time. Most Kenyon students (and visiting OSU students) saw Efron during the filming of the party scene in the DKE lounge in the Old Kenyon basement, which required many extras.

“One night I had to get 80 extras for an Old Kenyon party scene, and when the Second Assistant Director came in and told them that Zac Efron was coming, there was a collective gasp and then a flurry of whispers,” Arbery said.

“[Efron] was walking by, getting ready to do another take, and he winked right at me,” Kaitlin Graff ’12 said. “I’ve been working on my winking ever since so the next time I see him I’ll be ready.”

Starlight Children’s Foundation Wish

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

During Zac’s promotional tour for Charlie St. Cloud, the Starlight Children’s Foundation granted 18 year old Lama her biggest wish. The charity arranged for Lama, who has Spina Bifida, to have a tea party at Claridges with Zac, followed by red carpet passes to the movie premiere later that night.

Zac Efron joined Lama and her family, where he chatted easily with excited Lama.  The High School Musical star then presented Lama with a bracelet that had a line from his favourite film, Back to the Future’ inscribed, which read ‘where we are going we don’t need roads’.  When saying goodbye, beaming Lama thanked Zac and he signed her copy of Charlie St Cloud, the book of the film premiere that both Zac and Lama were due to attend that evening.

Be sure to check out more on Lama’s wish as well as the charity itself on their website.

Possible New Role – “The Paperboy”

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Via THR:

Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire, Sofia Vergara and Zac Efron will star in an adaptation of the 1995 Pete Dexter novel The Paperboy for Millennium Films.

Lee Daniels is set to direct the sexual thriller, which follows a Miami Times reporter as he returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the imprisonment of a death row inmate. Pedro Almodovar developed a feature project with Dexter for more than a decade before Daniels became involved early this year.

Hilary Shor is producing with Daniels. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and Danny Dimbort are executive producers. “This is a good film for us,” said Lerner, “a project that has Pedro Almodovar attached, is set in the steamy South, directed by Lee Daniels, Hilary Shor producing, and with the incredible cast of Matthew, Tobey, Sofia and Zac
